Technically nordic sports...

How to be nordic

Cross- country skiing is not only a sport. It is a lifestyle, an art and a great way to keep fit. What do you need to do if you want to become a true XC- skier or biathlete (that means be nordic)? Here are some of the most important rules for nordic man:
  1. If you choose your ski, it must be Madshus. It does not concern One Way Extra Hot series, which makes you more nordic.
  2. If you choose your poles, they must be One Way, models with 9xx or better. Their color must be as visible, as it is possible.
  3. Your boots must match to your skis. According to the first rule, they must be Madshus. In other cases use Alpina for NNN system and the same brand as your skis for SNS system.
  4. If you choose your clothes, there is only One Way to do it. ;-)
  5. All parts of your outfit must match to each other. Probably you do not want to be seen wearing Odlo red gloves and One Way fluo- yellow suit. It concerns your race outfit and training as well.
  6. Nordic man never uses a sunglasses (especially ordinary glasses!) during skiing. Stuff like this take on a bike tour. On snow use special Casco eyewear. It does not apply: Tord Asle Gjerdalen and his legendary pilot sunglasses.
  7. Nordic man should know some words in any of nordic languages. Knowledge of vulgar words does not count :-)
  8. Nordic man should have at least one flag (or other national symbol) of any nordic country.
  9. Nordic man always prefer the skating technique.
  10. Classic style is allowed only in some cases. Here they are: starting in tracks to a competition (obviously in skate style), being Eldar Roenning, part of a skiing track prepared for skate technique is impassable and you have to run onwards in the serious life- danger, double poling.
  11. Nordic man never says, that he is cold. Even if he is in danger of hypothermia.
  12. Nordic man never swears. If he has to do it, he uses one of nordic languages.
  13. Nordic man is always friendly for other skiers, whom he meets on a skiing track.
  14. Nordic man always observes the sights on skiing tracks.
  15. Nordic man chooses rather sporting skiing tracks, than touristic (lower risk of meeting "southern people", I mean tourists).
  16. Nordic man does not practice alpine skiing, because he thinks, that skiing down without uphills is pointless.
  17. Nordic man never gets angry without a reason.
  18. Nordic man always helps other people, especially in issues connected to cross- country skiing.
  19. Nordic man never cheats, that means: does not lie, does not use a doping and does not damage others to get an advantage for him.
  20. Nordic man should see the northern lights at least once in his life.
  21. Nordic man will never say these words: "I can't wait for the summer".
  22. If the summer comes implicitly, nordic man should provide himself a little part of skiing as rollskiing.
  23. After winter season's ending, nordic man starts immediately the countdown to the begining of the next season.
  24. Nordic man (if he is a biathlete) does every shooting according to the rule: "it always must be clean", that means shooting from the left to the right (look at the picture below). Exchange "clean" with "be" is allowed, like Ole Einar Bjoerndalen did years ago.
  25. Nordic man look after his "nordicness" and does it according to the rule: keep nordic and read SadurSkiskyting.

After reeding all these rules, think about it and answer the question: are YOU the Nordic Man?
